Mice

Finding mice in your home or business can be very distressing. Mice can spread disease in their search for food and shelter, posing health risks particularly in kitchens and food storage areas. Mice can cause other problems, so taking action to eliminate a mouse infestation quickly is important as they can:

  • Damage property as constant gnawing by mice can damage insulation, pipes, doors, floorboards & they shred soft items for nesting.

  • Contaminate foodstuffs as pathogens in their urine & faeces can transmit diseases such as Hantavirus & Salmonellosis.

  • Cause damage that can endanger as they gnaw to squeeze through gaps & control their incisors, including chewing electrical wiring in premises & vehicles that can lead to fire risks.

Mice have an average gestation period of 20 days and breed all year round. Once born, Pups generally take around 10 weeks to become sexually mature; and given favourable conditions can have up to 12 Pups per litter.

Mice are inquisitive and sporadic feeders, so although they will approach new bait relatively soon after it is placed, they need a number of bait stations.

With all rodent species it is important not to under bait, this could result in bait shyness or resilience making control a lot harder.

Rats

Rats can be very persistent even gnawing through metal to get in, and if they do gain access into your premises they can spread diseases, cause damage and contaminate food. Rats can cause other problems, so it’s vital to eliminate a rat infestation quickly as rats can:

  • Damage property with constant gnawing, rats can damage insulation, pipes, doors, floorboards and will also shred soft materials for nesting

  • Contaminate foodstuffs as pathogens in rat’s urine and droppings can transmit diseases such as Weil’s disease (Leptospirosis), Rat bite fever and Salmonellosis.

The brown rat can breed throughout the year if conditions are suitable, with a female producing up to five litters a year. The gestation period is only 21 days, and litters can number up to 14, although seven is common. They reach sexual maturity in about five weeks.

Rats take longer to control than Mice, They have Neophobia, (extreme or irrational fear or dislike of anything new or unfamiliar.) therefore, they don't tend to approach new bait straight away.

With all rodent species it is important not to under bait, this could result in bait shyness or resilience making control a lot harder.

Grey Squirrel

Female squirrels typically have two litters that contain an average of two to four young each year. However, depending on a variety of factors including food supply, weather conditions, and habitat, squirrels are capable of carrying up to eight young in one brood. Litters are usually born in late winter and then again during midsummer. Pregnancy lasts up to two months, and the young are born hairless and weigh around 13 to 18 grams, or 0.5 to 0.65 ounces. Squirrels are completely weaned from the mother after approximately two months, and adulthood is reached in nine months.

Squirrels can be very aggressive towards humans, especially if they feel threatened or they are defending their nest in your loft for example.

Very strong kania traps are required to trap a squirrel, in this situation we would recommend Contacting one of our professionals To survey a quote to catch and remove the quirrels for you.
